PhotoNetCast #78 – Photoblogging

Dave Wilson takes the lead of the panel on this one to discuss the ins and outs of photoblogging.

Ins and Outs of Photoblogging

And here we are again (photography podcast anyone?), this time to discuss all about photoblogging. Dave Wilson takes the hosting job on this one, and together with Bob Lussier, Jacob Lucas and Scott Wyden Kivowitz go into detail on the practice of keeping a blog dedicated to visual imagery. We last talked about photoblogging on episode 58. Most of that episode was about the benefits of a blog and self-hosting. This time, the panel discusses various platforms that people can use and the actual practice of photoblogging.

There was still time for a couple of listener questions (when Antonio is not around the panel actually manages to answer these in a timely manner), and the regular selected from the web.

Until the next one, enjoy the show…

PhotoNetCast #63 – Value of Photography as Collectible Art and some gift ideas

On this episode we talk photography spending habits, value of photography as collectible art and give you a few suggestions for Christmas gifts.

Welcome to another episode of your photography podcast.

Today we take a look at the results of our poll on our listeners’ photography spending habit. We also mention a new 500px export plugin for lightroom, bash Getty Images yet again for their cuts to photographers’ royalty percentages, and discuss photography as collectible art after the record-breaking $4,338,500 value reached at auction for “Rhein II”, a gigantic print by Andreas Gursky.

On this topic, while I like the idea of photography being sold for such prices, and getting the recognition it deserves as collectible art, there is the question of the perceived vs real value of such a print. What are your thoughts on this? Do you think the prices will go up or drop due to the amounts of photography on the market? Let us know on the comments below or record your comment as mp3 and email it to photonetcast at photonetcast.com

If you’re still looking for that perfect Christmas gift (maybe for yourself?), we have compiled a list of 16 suggestions for items that we recommend, and chosen to fit every budget.

Got any more gift suggestions? Drop them in the comments…

For now, enjoy the show…

PhotoNetCast #60 – Inside 500px.com

On this episode we are inside 500px (no, really, Sean was there) for a conversation with Jennifer Tse and Andrey Tochilin, the Media Director and the Digital Strategist for 500px, respectively.

Inside 500px.com

Welcome once again to your favourite, albeit almost always late, photography podcast. Episode #60 is up, and on the show we are inside 500px (no, really, Sean was there) for a conversation with Jennifer Tse and Andrey Tochilin, the Media Director and the Digital Strategist for 500px, respectively.500px

500px, started in 2003 as a community site, has seen an explosion in traffic, coverage, and extremely high quality content of late, and is considered the wonder kid of the photo sharing services.

In the conversation we looked more closely at the service, approached the reasons for this growth, and discussed the awesome improvements coming in the future.

Many thanks to Jen and Andrey for taking the time to talk with us.

Besides the 500px conversation, we’ve also talked about Google+ and discussed how photographers are using it.

Enjoy the show…
