PhotoNetCast #66 – Composition, Focus, Eye-Fi, High Key, Tripods and more

We answer listener questions: Eye-Fi cards, focus and focus points, high key photography, filters, tripods and heads, golden ration and composition, etc.

Listener Questions

We have dedicated this episode to clear the backlog of listeners’ questions we have been accumulating.

Lot’s of useful and insightful discussion:

  • We talk about Eye-Fi cards and their advantages and disadvantages;
  • we try to explain the golden ratio, not an easy thing to do on and audio show;
  • golden_ratio_spiral_composition
  • We discuss points of focus and problems that might arise from the “focus and re-compose” technique;
  • We lift the veil on high key photography;
  • Filter holders vs screw filters;
  • Medium format in landscape photography
  • Flash fall off

In the news, we mention the closing of Picnik, the photo editing engine used by Flickr – it seems that Flickr is getting a major revamping, let’s see what’s going to be new as editing tool. We’ve also discussed the new Nikon D800 and tried to foresee if the optical viewfinder is going to be around for a few years more or not.

PhotoNetCast #38 – Looking at the sky: Clouds and Sunsets

We continue our discussion on landscape photography with an emphasis on Clouds and Sunsets, and how an image can improve from these elements.

Looking at the sky: Clouds and Sunsets

As you’ll probably notice this is a late release from a recording we did later last year (the mentions to Christmas and New Year’s Eve should be a good hint). In this episode we continue our discussion on landscape photography, in particular how environmental elements such as clouds and sunsets can improve your images. There was also time to answer a few listener questions we had regarding what we discussed on our last episode.

As always, if you have any photography related questions, get in touch and we’ll do our best to answer them.

PhotoNetCast #37 – Tips for Landscape Photography (the basics)

Tips for Landscape Photography – From composition, light, filters and tripods, golden hour and the “rules”, we touch a bit on everything.

Yes, a new one is here. In the last episode we mentioned that due to me moving to a new country there could be an issue with being able to release episodes for some time. Unfortunately it took much longer than I ever expected and for that I can only apologize. In any case, here is the latest, and it’s all about landscape photography. We’ll probably going to release a couple more episodes in which we’ll try to focus on specific topics within landscape photography. On this one however, we decided to bring you some more basic tips on how to improve your landscape photography. Just because I’m saying it is basic, does not mean it is not important.

From composition, light, filters and tripods, golden hour and the "rules", we touch a bit on everything.

If you’d like us to approach a specific topic particularly in landscape photography, or expand a bit more on anything you’ve heard on the show, now it’s the time to get in touch.

A special thanks goes to Dave Wilson for taking the guest seat on the show.
